Welcome to OER Commons! OER Commons is a freely accessible online library that provides teachers and curriculum specialists instructional materials for classes. Open Educational Resources are teaching, learning and research materials in any medium – digital or otherwise – that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions.*
In addition to being a digital library, OER Commons is a platform to support OER Communities as they create, evaluate, adapt, and share OER.
There are over 60,000 educational resources on OER Commons designed for students in preschool, kindergarten to high school, college, professional, and adult education. Subject areas include:
- Applied Science
- Arts and Humanities
- Business and Communication
- Career and Technical Education
- Education
- English and Language Arts
- History
- Law
- Life Science
- Mathematics
- Physical Science
- Social Science
Open educational resources give educators the ability to adapt instructional resources to the individual needs of their students, to ensure that resources are up-to-date, and to ensure that cost is not a barrier to accessing high-quality standards-aligned resources.
Teachers, students, and others can tag, rate, and review materials, and share what works for them on OER Commons.
The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management Education (ISKME) created OER Commons to serve curriculum experts and educators in discovering open educational resources and collaborating around the use, evaluation, and improvement of those materials.
* Definition of OER based on William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Open Educational Resources
